What to Expect at Your First Weight Loss Consultation in Las Cruces

March 15, 20264 min read

Scheduling your first weight loss consultation in Las Cruces is a big step. Whether you have been researching GLP-1 medications, heard about semaglutide or tirzepatide from a friend, or just know it is time for a change, walking into a clinic for the first time can feel uncertain. Here is exactly what happens when you visit Fountain of Youth LC so there are no surprises.

Step 1: Scheduling Your Visit

You can book online through our ClinnicSense portal or call us directly at (575) 805-9166. Choose “Consultation” as your service type. The initial visit is 20 minutes and costs $75. If you are booking during our spring promotion, your first month of medication starts at $99.

Step 2: Meeting Your Doctor

At Fountain of Youth, you meet with a licensed Family Medicine physician, not a nurse practitioner or online provider. Dr. Joanna Rachelson and Dr. Laura Leija-Urrea are both board-licensed MDs who specialize in medical weight loss and hormone therapy. They will sit down with you, review your health history, and listen to your goals.

This is not a 5-minute prescription mill. Your doctor wants to understand what you have tried before, what has worked, what has not, and what is different about this moment in your life.

Step 3: Lab Work and Health Screening

Before prescribing any medication, our physicians order comprehensive lab work. This typically includes metabolic markers, thyroid function, hormone levels, and other indicators that affect weight loss. These labs tell us what is happening inside your body, not just what the scale says.

Some patients discover underlying hormone imbalances or metabolic issues they never knew about. This is where a physician-led program separates itself from telehealth scripts.

Step 4: Your Personalized Treatment Plan

Based on your labs and consultation, your doctor recommends one of our GLP-1 programs: semaglutide, tirzepatide, or retatrutide. They explain why that specific medication is the best fit for your body, what dose you will start at, and what to expect in the first few weeks.

You will also discuss side effect management. The most common side effect is mild nausea during dose titration, and your doctor will walk you through how to minimize it.

Step 5: Getting Started

If you are ready, you can begin treatment the same day. Your first injection can be done at the clinic, and you will receive instructions for at-home administration if your plan includes self-injection between visits.

We also offer InBody composition scanning ($5 walk-in) so you have a precise baseline measurement of your body fat percentage, muscle mass, and water balance. This gives you a much more complete picture than a scale alone.

Step 6: Ongoing Monitoring

This is not a “set it and forget it” program. You will have monthly check-ins with your physician. At each visit, they review your progress, adjust your dose if needed, and address any concerns. If your body responds better to a different medication, they make that switch. This is what physician-led care actually looks like.
